Hair Fall: Why It Happens and What You Can Do About It

Anti Hair Fall

3 min read

Hair fall is one of the most common conditions that people tend to suffer from. For the most part, it can be quite mild, with just a few noticeable strands snagging on one’s hairbrush, or clumping over a shower drain after a bath. However, the condition can also be quite severe, where the hair can thin out so much that one’s scalp is practically visible, or even worse, where the hair fall results in a permanent hair loss.

Most medical professionals tend to distinguish between hair fall that occurs from breakage along the hair shaft and hair fall that happens because of a specific medical condition or treatment.

So how exactly does hair fall happen and what can one do to alleviate or avoid it?

Why Does Hair Fall Happen and What Causes It?

According to research, hair fall may be triggered by physical factors such as undergoing severe stress, nutritional deficiencies – such as iron-deficiency, anemia or a lack of B-vitamins, 6 Good Hygiene Routines to Maintain Clean Hair and Scalp improper hair hygiene, crash dieting that leads to sudden weight loss, as well as a hormonal imbalance.

How Can We Treat It?

Treatments for severe hair fall run the gamut from nutritional therapy and stress management in mild cases, to hair transplants and hormonal therapy in more extreme situations. That said, is it possible that self-care could go a long way when it comes to minimising hair fall in the first place?

The old saying “prevention is better than cure” applies whenever people talk about hair fall. Proper care of one’s hair and scalp – as well as one’s health in general – is the key when it comes to preventing hair fall.

When considering a hair care regimen, it is important to take note of the following:

  • 1

The right shampoo makes all the difference

Properly formulated shampoos contain ingredients that can nourish the scalp and hair to combat hair fall and helps to make hair smooth and beautiful. CLEAR Men Anti-Hair Fall Anti-dandruff shampoo is infused with coffee extract that helps strengthen the hair and prevents hair fall whilst keeping the scalp dandruff-free*. For the ladies, get a freshly, soothing sensation of good hair health whenever you’re using CLEAR Naturals Anti-Hair Fall that strengthens the hair from the root to the tip with ginger root infusion, that effectively removes dandruff and rejuvenates the hair from within, to support up to ten times less hair fall**.

Wash your hair right

Regular hair washing can reduce product build-up that could weaken your hair at its roots. However, it’s also important to make sure that the way you’re washing your hair doesn’t cause hair fall. Your hair is at its weakest point when wet or damp. Since hair is very fragile, an abrasive washing can cause breakage of your hair or damage on your scalp. Try not to scrub the scalp with your fingernails, rather gently lather using the balls of your fingers to massage the scalp and increase circulation. Massage scalp and rinse well from roots to ends. Once you are done, gently dry the hair using short patting movements to prevent damage to the hair shaft.

Get nourished

Be sure to get enough protein and complex carbohydrates in your diet to keep your hair strong and healthy. Physicians and dietitians may also prescribe supplements rich in B-complex vitamins, iron, and amino acids to improve your hair quality.

  • 4

Style your hair right

Steer clear of hairstyles that are too tightly bound, as these could pull hair out and eventually weaken the hair shaft if done too often. Last but not least, don’t expose your hair to excessive blow-drying, ironing, and colouring as they can lead to hair fall.
