Resilience is a learned ability to cope with challenges. It’s a process that we all go through in our lives as we face difficult situations, whatever they might be. As we become more resilient, we feel better prepared to deal with the challenges ahead, both mentally and emotionally.
Contrary to what most people think, resilience is not only about your individual abilities to cope with challenges. Your ability to adapt to different situations, to focus on the present and things that truly matter, as well as the ability to reframe negative thoughts into positives ones is of course, extremely important.
But resilience is also about the resources around you and your ability to access and navigate through these coping mechanisms to help you deal with the challenges. Some examples of these resources include a supportive family member, friends, a community where you belong, a space in your life where you can demonstrate your talents and express a powerful identity.
As we live in unprecedented times, where our world and challenges are evolving quickly, building resilience is key.
Why? Because we all currently live under constant scrutiny, judgement and pressure to beat the curve and perform. Such pressures can manifest into anxieties and fear of judgement, which can hold us back and prevent us from performing at our best. Therefore, by building resilience, one is able to stay strong and also come back stronger from these everyday challenges, so you can continue to perform at your best.
